Personality:
Bennett is a rather amicable fellow; friendly but not brash, helpful but not a wiseacre, neither a barefaced introvert nor an extrovert. He enjoys the uncertainty and stimulation of adventure, but sometimes has a difficult time overlooking rules and regulations when the activity he and others are involved in does not seem quite as savory to authoritative adults. Bennett enjoys studying people, he enjoys imitating what makes a person unique-- their nuances, slight rise and fall of voice, their movements, their twist of lips; it is a valuable skill for his interest of theater.
Though he is not an ignorant boy, there are times that Bennett blinds himself by refusing to accept the bad forewarnings of people. Even in the most serious of cases, his mind focuses on the positive; he believes all have the future, fate, and caliber to change their ways. The slightest of amends that a person may feel in their heart, visible or merely suspected, Bennett finds greatly admirable. Forgiveness and growth can be a deadly thing, and to move on from avarice and brutality can harm a person in more than one way.
Bennett relishes in warm weather; when the temperature is of noticeable chill, his skin takes on a bizarre crawling sensation and he feels trapped. Another interesting dislike is that of the canine species; dogs seem to behave unusually around him, and Bennett, in unison, conducts himself with discomfort.
Appearance:
Bennett is average-sized for his age, perhaps narrower in the shoulders and hips than other boys. He has a burnt copper-colored head of hair with an unusual cowlick at the left side of his forehead which twists and manipulates the strands in a swirl. His eyes are a similar silken brown, sitting below medium-sized eyebrows and a brow bone that is beginning to grow and develop. Bennett's skin is a smooth oatmeal tone with notes of an ashen quality. There is a smile that seems to be permanently housed on his face, of differing magnitude depending on the situation; his teeth are moderately uneven, but are all the same endearing.
History:
Throughout his heritage there have been a zigzagging of purebloods and muggles, but the scholarly parlous devotedly sacrificed for the wizarding world ultimately began with one man - his great grandfather. It was at a young age in Iraq (or was it Iran? Arabia? Bennett heard differently from each person who told it) that Bassam Firdaus (his first and middle name) was introduced to the art by a foreign, native-English-speaking necromancer. The experiences and stories that this person gave to little Bassam sculpted his existence-- a boy who belonged not to a caring family. The enchanter was a great person, an ever-jubilant smile of radiance (so unlike the ghoulish image storytellers had painted warlocks); and if Bassam had not yet been convinced of their interweaving of destinies by other means, the simple fact that his name had such an akin meaning... Bassam meant "smiling," and Firdaus meant "paradise," solidified it.
The next portion of the tale, much like the country of origin, slightly warps and alters, depending on whose lips it escapes. It is told that Bassam took the man's surname, Fletcher, for he felt more connected to him than to his own parentage- and that his preexisting double patronymic "Ajam" and "El-Hashem" did not fit his beliefs (the latter meant "the crusher"). Another account has it that there was an English traveler who fell in love with a girl in the village, and subsequently fathered a child- explaining the surname of Fletcher's beginnings. But there is one more tale, one that does not prove or deny either of the previous, that Bennett's great grandmother naturally bore the same lastname... which leads allegations to speculate that either it was a happy coincidence that Bassam shared it, that he did not in fact take Fletcher, or that there was a grave happening that caused a rift leading to the woman being a single mother (and thus bestowing her own surname).
Bennett is the son of two globe-trotting gallivants, which may explain his muddled accent. He was born on a scalding hot day when his parents' world exploring by means of Floo Network experienced an error, and instead of their destination of Finland, they materialized in the fireplace of a house in Libya. Though Malvina has been a decent mother (though not doting), Bennett used to flinch during her rages where she'd growl, "You're just as unpleasant as the place in which you were born!" As a young child, he always wondered if she might be the "wicked witch" that Muggle children read about. In contrast to her tempestuous relationship with her son, Malvina loved Gord - but Bennett hasn't seen them recently, and does not attempt to make claims of knowledge regarding their bond.
When not tagging along with his parents, Bennett often spent his days with his maternal grandparents, Heinrich Melsbach and Cesarina Dioli. They're an intriguing pair, he never quite knew what to expect when he arrived - in regards to their house, their activities, plans for their grandson's visit, and even they're personalities. One particular fond memory is of hiking and birdwatching.
