RAVENCLAWCongratulations! I’m Prefect Robert Hilliard, and I’m delighted to welcome you to RAVENCLAW HOUSE. Our emblem is the eagle, which soars where others cannot climb; our house colors are blue and bronze, and our common room is found at the top of Ravenclaw Tower, behind a door with an enchanted knocker. The arched windows set into the walls of our circular common room look down at the school grounds: the lake, the Forbidden Forest, the Quidditch pitch and the Herbology gardens. No other house in the school has such stunning views.
Without wishing to boast, this is the house where the cleverest witches and wizards live. Our founder, Rowena Ravenclaw, prized learning above all else – and so do we. Unlike the other houses, who all have concealed entrances to their common rooms, we don’t need one. The door to our common room lies at the top of a tall, winding staircase. It has no handle, but an enchanted bronze knocker in the shape of an eagle. When you rap on the door, this knocker will ask you a question, and if you can answer it correctly, you are allowed in. This simple barrier has kept out everyone but Ravenclaws for nearly a thousand years.
Some first-years are scared by having to answer the eagle’s questions, but don’t worry. Ravenclaws learn quickly, and you’ll soon enjoy the challenges the door sets. It’s not unusual to find twenty people standing outside the common room door, all trying to work out the answer to the day’s question together. This is a great way to meet fellow Ravenclaws from other years, and to learn from them – although it is a bit annoying if you’ve forgotten your Quidditch robes and need to get in and out in a hurry. In fact, I’d advise you to triple-check your bag for everything you need before leaving Ravenclaw Tower.
Another cool thing about Ravenclaw is that our people are the most individual – some might even call them eccentrics. But geniuses are often out of step with ordinary folk, and unlike some other houses we could mention, we think you’ve got the right to wear what you like, believe what you want, and say what you feel. We aren’t put off by people who march to a different tune; on the contrary, we value them!
Speaking of eccentrics, you’ll like our Head of house, Professor Filius Flitwick. People often underestimate him, because he’s really tiny (we think he’s part elf, but we’ve never been rude enough to ask) and he’s got a squeaky voice, but he’s the best and most knowledgeable Charms master alive in the world today. His office door is always open to any Ravenclaw with a problem, and if you’re in a real state he’ll get out these delicious little cupcakes he keeps in a tin in his desk drawer and make them do a little dance for you. In fact, it’s worth pretending you’re in a real state just to see them jive.
Ravenclaw house has an illustrious history. Most of the greatest wizarding inventors and innovators were in our house, including Perpetua Fancourt, the inventor of the lunascope, Laverne de Montmorency, a great pioneer of love potions, and Ignatia Wildsmith, the inventor of Floo powder. Famous Ravenclaw Ministers for Magic include Millicent Bagnold, who was in power on the night that Harry Potter survived the Dark Lord’s curse, and defended the wizarding celebrations all over Britain with the words, ‘I assert our inalienable right to party'. There was also Minister Lorcan McLaird, who was a quite brilliant wizard, but preferred to communicate by puffing smoke out of the end of his wand. Well, I did say we produce eccentrics. In fact, we are also the house that gave the wizarding world Uric the Oddball, who used a jellyfish for a hat. He’s the punch line of a lot of wizard jokes.
As for our relationship with the other three houses: well, you’ve probably heard about the Slytherins. They’re not all bad, but you’d do well to be on your guard until you know them well. They’ve got a long house tradition of doing whatever it takes to win – so watch out, especially in Quidditch matches and exams.
The Gryffindors are OK. If I had a criticism, I’d say Gryffindors tend to be show-offs. They’re also much less tolerant than we are of people who are different; in fact, they’ve been known to make jokes about Ravenclaws who have developed an interest in levitation, or the possible magical uses of troll bogies, or ovomancy, which (as you probably know) is a method of divination using eggs. Gryffindors haven’t got our intellectual curiosity, whereas we’ve got no problem if you want to spend your days and nights cracking eggs in a corner of the common room and writing down your predictions according to the way the yolks fall. In fact, you’ll probably find a few people to help you.
As for the Hufflepuffs, well, nobody could say they’re not nice people. In fact, they’re some of the nicest people in the school. Let’s just say you needn’t worry too much about them when it comes to competition at exam time.
I think that’s nearly everything. Oh yes, our house ghost is the Gray Lady. The rest of the school thinks she never speaks, but she’ll talk to Ravenclaws. She’s particularly useful if you’re lost, or you’ve mislaid something.
I’m sure you’ll have a good night. Our dormitories are in turrets off the main tower; our four-poster beds are covered in sky blue silk eiderdowns and the sound of the wind whistling around the windows is very relaxing.
And once again: well done on becoming a member of the cleverest, quirkiest and most interesting house at Hogwarts.

Name: This is Piper Mackenzie Greft. Piper means Flute player which is very ironic since she can't play it to save her life. Originally Piper was to be named Wilma since it is a Female version of the name William -Piper's Paternal Grandfather who died due to Lung cancer- but her mother did not want her daughter to named after someone from the Flintstones, so instead she became Piper since her namesake played the Flute. Mackenzie on the other hand is of Scottish Descent and it means "Son of the Comely One" looks like her parents did a Gender Bend on that one. *** Name: Flynn Sutter Nelson
Flynn typically means to act quickly and impulsively, as well as taking opportunities as they are offered. None of these adjectives are wasted on Flynn, who is all three. Sutter is a name of a country in California, though that isn't why he was named that. His mother's surname before she married was Sutter, and she wanted to have part of her son named after her so his middle name became her previous surname. Nelson is a fairly common surname, though it is also a wrestling position where one arm is passed under the opponent's arm from behind and the hand is applied to the neck (half nelson), or both arms and hands are applied (full nelson). The last name came from Flynn's father's side. Both Flynn and Nelson are American names, though Sutter is Swiss and shows that somewhere down the line Flynn has European heritage. Nickname: Lynn if you want to annoy him, but if you use that it is guaranteed that you will wake up with two black eyes and a broken nose. He usually just goes by his full name, Flynn, though sometimes lets people he knows call him Finn. Age & Gender: 11 years, Male Year & House: 1st Year, Ravenclaw Blood Type: Flynn is a full-blood wizard and has a family tree of Ravenclaws all the way down the line of both his parent's heritages as far as anybody can remember. However, his family is one that is less known to the wizards and tend to lie low and stay behind the scenes and is rather good at it so they were never really recognized for anything. His parents were of only slightly above average intelligence, and when in Ravenclaw that doesn't get you anywhere much, and didn't do superbly in school, but didn't fail either, and so were his grandparents for the most part, all leading to the fact that nobody really remembers the Nelsons or the Sutters. Wand: A 9 inch willow wand, with a dragon heartstring core. Quidditch Position (3-7 years ONLY): He is too young to be on a Quidditch team, but he fancies being a beater if at all possible and watches all matches that he can to try and learn how to play in advance so he can have an advantage when the time comes that he can try out. He does occasionally have a go at practicing at home, but with no real obstacles or ways to really play he gets bored of it easily. His father was a beater for a year when he was at school and tries to give his son pointers, but since he was never really successful he doesn't help much. Personality: Flynn is very impulsive and does nearly everything without thinking first. He has a short temper, but is trying to improve it and not be so snappy all the time, but that is failing. Once he realizes that he had snapped at somebody with no reason, he does apologize and feel bad about it for awhile. Flynn's mind is always drifting and wondering about different things, he can't concentrate on any one thing for extended periods of time. He is very fidgety and doesn't like to sit still and listen, preferring to learn by himself in the outdoors and learns best when presented with a hands-on situation. He is determined and stubborn, and once he has his sights set on something very little will divert him from his goal, no matter how outrageous it may be. He has an interesting sense of humor, sometimes he can come up with great jokes but sometimes his attempts fall flat. Very flat. His mind is light and agile, and he comes to terms with things very easily and is good at adapting to different situations that he may find himself in. Flynn is a trouble-maker to the core, and loves pranking people and doing things that aren't entirely... Legal. Though in the end, he does mean well. He doesn't have set loyalties and is prone to shifting from one side to another, and never gets attached to anything. Appearance: Flynn has thick light brown hair that is cut in a rather common style; slightly longer on the top and thinner towards the sides of his head. The hair on the top of his head is gelled so it curves slightly and doesn't drop down over his eyes. He has brown eyes which are a few shades darker than his hair, which is unusual because hair is usually darker then eye colors. It gives him a rather mischievous look, though it makes him look shifty and like he isn't to be trusted. If you put things plainly, you probably shouldn't trust him completely to begin with, so looks aren't really deceiving in this case. He is broad across the shoulders and has a face that is slightly squared, with a strong jaw and large eyes that are underneath eyebrows that are becoming thicker. He stands at 4'3, which is slightly taller than average for his age. His skin is fair and white, though he has multiple cuts, scratches and bruises all over the place from his adventures. History: Flynn grew up in a quiet countryside situated in Foxholm, North Dakota where there was only slightly above 100 citizens. His family had all been raised on the same estate, and is home to many family relics and even wandering spells that were mislaid. All in all, there were a lot of ways to get into trouble, and Flynn managed to single handedly get into every situation possible. Even so, nothing bad ever happened to him, and he was always surrounded by his family and other magical folk that had settled in the same town so when the stranger came in the middle of the night to invite him to Hogwarts it was no surprise. He was born on the 13th of January, 2002 during a snow storm at around 11 pm at night, the same birthdate as that of his grandfather who recently passed away. Family & Pets: Flynn has one older brother named Matthew who graduated from Hogwarts last year, and his parents are named Dominique (father) and Alisa (mother). He grew up with his parent's familiars, an owl named Olive and a toad named Snapper respectively, as well as the various animals that roamed in nearby farms and in the woods. He now also has his rat, which he named Snare due to the fact that the rat can steal cheese from any mouse-trap without getting caught or getting 'snared'. The family also has one non-magical animal that they consider theirs, a male Grizzly Bear dubbed Stan by Flynn's elder brother. Stan roams the nearby woods and occasionally comes to do chores for the family, such as becoming the test subject of multiple types of spells. He always gets restored to his original form however, though sometimes it takes awhile for the family to find a spell to counter-react the original spell. Crush or Boyfriend or Girlfriend: N/A - He is too young, but he thinks that having a girlfriend would be a weakness in a way, though he does enjoy flirting. He will leave any admirers in the dust though, he only ever does things for fun, he never means to be serious. If you get into a relationship with him without knowing this, then your emotions might be at risk. Though he has never run into a girl that he particularly likes (still too young) so there is a possibility of this changing. Other: His picture (above) is of him much later in life. The source is on the image. Snare's image (below) is from Wikimedia Commons. ***
