HUFFLEPUFF
Congratulations! I’m Prefect Gabriel Truman, and I’m delighted to welcome you to HUFFLEPUFF HOUSE. Our emblem is the badger, an animal that is often underestimated, because it lives quietly until attacked, but which, when provoked, can fight off animals much larger than itself, including wolves. Our house colours are yellow and black, and our common room lies one floor below the ground, on the same corridor as the kitchens.
Now, there are a few things you should know about Hufflepuff house. First of all, let’s deal with a perennial myth about the place, which is that we’re the least clever house. WRONG. Hufflepuff is certainly the least boastful house, but we’ve produced just as many brilliant witches and wizards as any other. Want proof? Look up Grogan Stump, one of the most popular Ministers for Magic of all time.
He was a Hufflepuff – as were the successful Ministers Artemesia Lufkin and Dugald McPhail. Then there’s the world authority on magical creatures, Newt Scamander; Bridget Wenlock, the famous thirteenth-century Arithmancer who first discovered the magical properties of the number seven, and Hengist of Woodcroft, who founded the all-wizarding village of Hogsmeade, which lies very near Hogwarts School. Hufflepuffs all.
So, as you can see, we’ve produced more than our fair share of powerful, brilliant and daring witches and wizards, but, just because we don’t shout about it, we don’t get the credit we deserve. Ravenclaws, in particular, assume that any outstanding achiever must have come from their house. I got into big trouble during my third year for duelling a Ravenclaw prefect who insisted that Bridget Wenlock had come from his house, not mine. I should have got a week of detentions, but Professor Sprout let me off with a warning and a box of coconut ice.
Hufflepuffs are trustworthy and loyal. We don’t shoot our mouths off, but cross us at your peril; like our emblem, the badger, we will protect ourselves, our friends and our families against all-comers. Nobody intimidates us.
However, it’s true that Hufflepuff is a bit lacking in one area. We’ve produced the fewest Dark wizards of any house in this school. Of course, you’d expect Slytherin to churn out evil-doers, seeing as they’ve never heard of fair play and prefer cheating over hard work any day, but even Gryffindor (the house we get on best with) has produced a few dodgy characters.
What else do you need to know? Oh yes, the entrance to the common room is concealed in a stack of large barrels in a nook on the right hand side of the kitchen corridor. Tap the barrel two from the bottom, middle of the second row, in the rhythm of ‘Helga Hufflepuff’, and the lid will swing open. We are the only house at Hogwarts that also has a repelling device for would-be intruders. If the wrong lid is tapped, or if the rhythm of the tapping is wrong, the illegal entrant is doused in vinegar.
You will hear other houses boast of their security arrangements, but it so happens that in more than a thousand years, the Hufflepuff common room and dormitories have never been seen by outsiders. Like badgers, we know exactly how to lie low – and how to defend ourselves. Once you’ve opened the barrel, crawl inside and along the passageway behind it, and you will emerge into the cosiest common room of them all. It is round and earthy and low-ceilinged; it always feels sunny, and its circular windows have a view of rippling grass and dandelions.
There is a lot of burnished copper about the place, and many plants, which either hang from the ceiling or sit on the windowsills. Our Head of house, Professor Pomona Sprout, is Head of Herbology, and she brings the most interesting specimens (some of which dance and talk) to decorate our room – one reason why Hufflepuffs are often very good at Herbology. Our overstuffed sofas and chairs are upholstered in yellow and black, and our dormitories are reached through round doors in the walls of the common room. Copper lamps cast a warm light over our four-posters, all of which are covered in patchwork quilts, and copper bed warmers hang on the walls, should you have cold feet.
Our house ghost is the friendliest of them all: the Fat Friar. You’ll recognize him easily enough; he’s plump and wears monk’s robes, and he’s very helpful if you get lost or are in any kind of trouble.
I think that’s nearly everything. I must say, I hope some of you are good Quidditch players. Hufflepuff hasn’t done as well as I’d like in the Quidditch tournament lately. You should sleep comfortably. We’re protected from storms and wind down in our dormitories; we never have the disturbed nights those in the towers sometimes experience.
And once again: congratulations on becoming a member of the friendliest, most decent and most tenacious house of them all.

Name: Lindsley MartinsShe doesn't have a middle name; her mother's side is Asian and they don't give middle names that was the only aspect of her name that her mother thought of, she uses her father's surname and he also thought of her first name. It was also the name of her great-great grandmother on her father's side, who was a Hufflepuff.Nickname: Lind or Wind Lind is more common, only her younger brother calls her Wind since he finds it hard to pronounce 'L's. Teachers call her by her full name, Lindsley, though it is commonly miss-pronounced and miss-spelled as Lindley instead of Lindsley.Age & Gender: 11 Years old, Female Year & House: 1st Year, Hufflepuff Blood Type: Her mother's side is purely muggle, and as mentioned above her mother is Asian. (Thai / Indonesian - She came to the United States of America to study and met her husband-to-be) However, her father's side is made up of wizards. The majority of them were either sorted into Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff, though there was one Gryffindor. Her father's side didn't really approve of the marriage to a muggle, so things are slightly awkward with their relationship, but things got better when it turned out that Lindsley is a witch. If it turns out that Lindsley's younger brother James is also magical, then the relationship will only get better. Wand: Nine [9] inches, made of oak and has a core of Unicorn Hair. Quidditch Position (3-7 years ONLY): She is too young to play, and she doesn't really like the looks of the sport from when she watches it. She thinks that it is a tad too violent, and seeing that people can be injured while playing... It isn't really in her interest range. Personality: Lind pretty much sums up the word 'nice'. Polite and quiet, always ready with a smile, and of decent intelligence. However, she seems rather flat, like there is nothing but fluff inside her personality. She keeps mostly to herself, and is often viewed as an introvert, preferring to stay in the background where she can blend in and be apart of the crowd. However, once you start talking to her you will find that she has a sense of humor and likes making jokes, hence why she was sorted into Hufflepuff. She doesn't like seeing people get hurt, no matter who they are, and is very nonjudgmental. She will not judge a person by first impressions, what they look like or where they come from, which can be both good and bad. Lind is very gullible and will fall for everything except the most obvious of tricks, though she is skilled at picking up what is sarcasm and what is not. She likes to keep her head down when in a new area or around new people, but once she gets used to her surroundings she does open up a little bit. She cares little about what others think about her, and will stand up for all her beliefs and thoughts. Appearance: Lind is slightly below average height for her age, standing at 4'0 and weighing a healthy seventy-eight [78] pounds. She has straight hair that is cut short, only reaching her chin at it's longest point and therefore doesn't require tying in order to keep it out of her eyes. She needs only to push it back behind her ears and it usually stays. Her hair is black, though it can be classified as very dark brown, and has no highlights, maintaining a constant color all the way through. She has slightly slitted Asian eyes that are dark brown in color, with thin eyebrows and short eyelashes that are the same color as her hair. She is slim and rather thin, but her face carries some 'extra' flesh that makes her look still quite young. She has thin fingers with short nails, she doesn't like to have them long because she finds it hard to pick things up without chipping her nails. She doesn't paint her nails, wear make-up or use perfume since she is allergic to most perfumes and make-up. It makes her skin become rough and sometimes she breaks out with red bumps if she is around lots of it. Her skin is fair, but is naturally tanned due to her Asian heritage. History: Lindsley was born on May 17th, 2002 at 9:00 am precisely. She grew up in rather large city of Bridgeport, Connecticut. She lived in a medium-sized flat with her family and three cats, and went to school at the nearby local Primary School. She liked volunteering at the pound and helping out all the animals, though usually only caused more trouble for the other pound volunteers because they constantly fretted about her getting hurt since she was so young, but nothing bad ever occurred. Nothing unusual happened to her during her childhood until a stranger came and told her that she was a witch. Family & Pets: Lind has one younger brother (as mentioned above) named James. He is six [6] years old, and is a pesky little fellow who likes to get into trouble. She was constantly charged with looking after him before she came to Hogwarts, and is good with children because of that. Her father is named Delinqui (Wizard, Ravenclaw) and her mother is named Mogkut- Stang for short (muggle). The family had three cats, all of which were adopted from local shelters, though one was rescued off the streets. Their names are Tiger, Cloud and Baxter. (Tiger and Baxter are males, and Cloud is a female and is also the one they rescued from the streets) And she has recently acquired another female cat (a pure Colorpoint Siamese) which she named Cake. She is taking Cake to Hogwarts with her. Crush or Boyfriend or Girlfriend: N/A - She is heterosexual and therefore would have a boyfriend if she gets one. Other: Cake's picture (below) and Lind's picture (above) are both from Wikimedia Commons.

Name: Alluvia Esmerelda Fauston
Nickname: Lumi (Her brother couldn't pronounce "Luvi" properly.)
Age & Gender: 11, Female
Year & House: 1st year, Hufflepuff
Blood Type: Pureblood
Wand: 01'' Apple, Phoenix tail feather
Quidditch Position (3-7 years ONLY): None, loves flying at high speeds and very good at it but not very interested in Quidditch.
Personality: She loves people. She finds them absolutely fascinating and always loves to find out more about people than most people see. She tends to trust too easily because most are fond of her trusting smiles and general pleasantness which rouses people's protective instincts. As a result, most of her friends are extremely loyal and protective and she is a bit overly reliant on them to get her out of trouble. She can be a bit cheeky and does like to pull a few pranks here or there, but never in a malicious way.
In terms of school work, she is easily distractable, forgetful, regards deadlines as suggestions and always does last minute rush work. She's only reliable when it comes to being a good friend and at understanding concepts easily and getting them right first try most of the time, which infuriates the teachers because they know she doesn't put much effect in. She's particularly bad at potions (and cooking!) because she never follows instructions correctly. Otherwise, she's a fairly good all-round student.
History: As the youngest in the family, she tended to be overly protected as a young child who would always hover over her to make sure she didn't get into trouble. This led to her only escape being a literal one - on her broom, which is why she loves flying.
Otherwise, her childhood was that of a fairly normal, happy magical child's.
Family & Pets: Mother: Cora Fauston Father: Juniper Fauston Twin sisters (oldest): Nimue and Nerissa Fauston Brother (older): Dorian Fauston Pet (owl): Wisely
Crush or Boyfriend or Girlfriend: None.
Other: Possesses ability to speak to magical beings in their native tongue, an ability associated with her wand. She loves all animals, even the creepy ones, because of this.
Appearance: Average height, average build. She has pale, almost white ear-length hair and hazel eyes.
